This beautiful species is but one of several different Asian tarantulas under the genus Poecilotheria. This species is not recommended as a beginner species and while there have been no recorded deaths from a tarantula bite, this species is considered to have a medically significant bite with venom that can cause long-lasting muscle contractions. They are very fast moving and generally prefer to flee than to bite however if felt cornered, they may use a threat display of which is particularly striking due to the yellow pigment under their legs
