This beetle is completely harmless, although it’s carapace is covered in warning colours and patterns. This is called batesian mimicry. They feed on flowers and fruits in orchards in Southern Africa. Eggs are laid in dung piles and compost heaps, providing ample food for the larvae, and a warm, safe environment for the pupae to develop.
